Unlike most United Nations offices in China, which are located in the diplomatic district around Liangma River, this office of UNIDO ITPO Beijing is located in a picturesque corner of Beijing, Shichahai area, surrounded by history, nature, and vibrant local life. In summer, the lotus flowers bloom in the serene waters, while in autumn, the golden leaves create a magical scene. Even during the cold winter months, when the Shichahai lakes freeze over, the office offers a quiet, peaceful atmosphere perfect for reflection. During lunch breaks, I often joined my colleagues to explore local delicacies, enjoying the natural beauty of the area. Our office was a blend of modernity and tradition—its ancient exterior contrasted with a spacious and bright interior. From the large windows, we had a stunning view of the river and the setting sun.

Since high school, I had dreamed of working for the United Nations. The idea of contributing to global development and making a meaningful impact on sustainable development was a passion I had worked towards for years. So, when I was finally offered the opportunity to intern at UNIDO ITPO Beijing, it felt like a dream come true. I was thrilled and full of gratitude to embark on this transformative journey.
One of my first major tasks was to assist with the reception and maintenance of the domestic and international sustainable investment partnership database. During this process, I had the chance to interact with a wide range of UNIDO ITPO Beijing’s partners, including government, enterprises, universities, and research institutes. I was fascinated by how the ITPO Beijing empowers partners across different sectors. I observed firsthand how ITPO Beijing fosters collaboration between governments and private sector partners. For the government, we assisted in attracting foreign investment, boosting regional economic vitality, and enhancing internationalization. On the business side, we conducted research to identify suitable partners and provided tailored resources to meet their needs.
My second major responsibility involved working with my supervisor on ESG initiatives. We organized and participated in several events related to ESG, one of the highlights being the ESG Journal to Food Sustainability Seminar, which I had the privilege of leading. Each event was an opportunity for me to expand my knowledge, learning about cutting-edge developments in sustainability.

My supervisor, Erica, played an instrumental role in my growth during the internship. She not only provided me with opportunities to learn and engage with core business activities, but also offered emotional support when I struggled with new tasks. Erica, with her vast experience at the United Nations, was a true mentor. In the beginning, I often made mistakes and felt overwhelmed by my inexperience. However, her patience, encouragement, and understanding gave me the confidence to overcome these challenges and rapidly develop into someone capable of handling responsibilities independently.
Beyond my core tasks, I also contributed to the daily office maintenance, including administrative duties and guest reception. Whenever visitors came to the office, an intern was assigned to introduce them to the environment, and I was often the one to welcome them with a warm and informative tour.
One of the most cherished aspects of my time at UNIDO ITPO Beijing was the friendships I formed with my fellow interns. My friends Bonnie, Blanca, Megan, and Vicky are not only brilliant colleagues but also became dear friends. We supported each other throughout our tasks, and beyond the office, we shared countless moments of joy and laughter. Whether it was chatting about life or exploring Beijing together, these friendships added a special dimension to my internship. Even after the internship ended, our bond remained strong—our sisterhood continues to bring happiness and meaning to my life.

Looking back over the past six months, my time at UNIDO ITPO Beijing remains one of the most memorable and rewarding experiences of my life. Despite the occasional overtime work and challenges along the way, the opportunity to be part of such a meaningful mission was truly invaluable. I am highly grateful to PDF for supporting this journey, and I hope that in the future, more young people will have the chance to explore the world and discover the endless possibilities life has to offer.
